Dear Carol and Joe,
As always, we have you in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. I thought, perhaps, because you hadn't posted anything on the web site for so long, Joe was not dealing with the continued difficulties of infections and pneumonia etc. I am so sorry. Hopefully this year, 2010, will be the year that Joe is able to say good-bye to all these hospital stays and see more progress. We love you.

This morning Community General Hospital had opening ceremonies for its new sixth floor orthopedic unit. Many elected officials attended, including Senator DeFrancisco.
Steve Infanti, hospital board chair, asked us all to remember your role, Joe, in building and developing the orthopedic service over many years.
Dr. Rick Zogby seconded Steve's words. In an emotional moment Rick acknowledged how important you have been to Community's progress.
John DeFranciso, who helped cut the ribbon, also talked about you. “Joe Smith is my best friend," he said, and explained how much you mean to him and to the Syracuse orthopedic community.
It was a heartfelt, unscripted outpouring of love and respect, Joe. You are a very large presence here.

Dr. Joe Smith and Family,
I learned of your postings through SOS after the Orthopedic Center opening at CGH the other day. I have tried to keep track of your progress and truly think of you often. Keep fighting the challenges and setting the goals! You certainly have a great number of friends behind you and family beside you. If you need another reason for a grin, remember how much fun you used to have hassling me about "incomplete records...!"
My best wishes and prayers for your health and improvement.

Dear Carol and Joe, We continue to pray for you every day. You both continue to fight and your strength is truly amazing. I hope the Orangemen keep your spirits lifted at times---except for the Pitt game of course! I would come any time--just call me and I am there for both of you. I am a great shopper-cleaner and actually a pretty good cook too. Again, your friends are here for you-as always, our love and hugs to both of you! P.C. and Kevin
