Bursitis Shoulder

What is Bursitis Shoulder?

Bursitis shoulder is when the bursa becomes inflammed or irritated. The bursa refers to a fluid sac that is located between tissues that decreases rubbing and friction in the shoulder.

Bursitis shoulder is often associated with shoulder pain.

Bursitis Shoulder Causes

There are many different possible bursitis shoulder causes, including, but not necessarily limited to:

  • Repetitive impact on the bursa
  • Sudden, major impact on the bursa
  • Tendon wear and tear from aging
  • Shoulder joint overuse, especially from gardening, carpentry or shoveling
  • Overuse from sports, such as tennis, golf, skiing or baseball
  • Poor posture
  • Poor conditioning or stretching prior to exercise

Bursitis shoulder is also more common in people who are above age 40.

In addition, certain medical conditions are associated with bursitis shoulder, such as:

Bursitis Shoulder Symptoms

Bursitis shoulder symptoms include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Shoulder pain, which may be gradual or sudden and severe
  • Severe loss of motion in the shoulder

In addition, bursitis shoulder may also cause frozen shoulder. Because of this, it's important to see a shoulder doctor about bursitis shoulder before it causes additional health problems.
