Dr. Geisler is a professor and the director of the Athletic Training Program at Ithaca College. He earned his BS in Sports Medicine from Marietta College, M.A.; Exercise Physiology & Sports Medicine, The University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill; and Ed.D, Curriculum Studies, Georgia Southern University, Statesboro. Professionally, he enjoys blending hisprofessional discipline of athletic training with relevant narratives, discourse and theories from curriculum, philosophy, and cultural studies as they relate to higher education and intellectual development in order to create well rounded and critically reflective young professionals.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to distinguish between the existing and widely held paradigm for ITB pain and dysfunction known as “iliotibial friction syndrome” and the newly proposed “iliotibial band impingement syndrome”.
- Participants will be able to effectively evaluate athletes presenting with ITB impingement syndrome, based on a new biomechanically based and evidence-informed model of assessment that focuses on deficient hip muscle function.
- Participants will be able to design and implement more effective, evidence-informed treatment programs for athletes suffering from ITB impingement syndrome by focusing on greater closed chain gluteal muscle function and timing.
