Mark A. Wolgin, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes exclusively in spine surgery as part of the SOS Neck & Back Team.
Before joining SOS, Dr. Wolgin practiced at Orthopaedic Associates in Albany, Georgia, where he focused on the comprehensive treatment of spinal conditions. His expertise includes managing complex neck and back disorders such as degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, and spinal instability.
Dr. Wolgin earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training first in foot/ankle surgery, but later realized his interest in spinal issues. He did a subsequent fellowship in spinal disorders at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and has subsequently focused his practice on spinal conditions for the last 20 years. His clinical approach emphasizes non-operative approaches before considering any surgical intervention. Given the complex anatomic and neurologic considerations in treating spinal problems, he has a high priority on educating his patients so they can be comfortable with their decisions of how to proceed with treatment. His surgical techniques include both open and minimally invasive techniques. Most importantly, as he would tell the residents he used to teach, the plan is to "treat every patient like you're going to see them at Thanksgiving."
Dr. Wolgin is dedicated to helping patients reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve overall quality of life through comprehensive, compassionate spine care.
Dr. Wolgin’s mission statement is:
“To carefully evaluate the symptoms of each patient, offer the full spectrum of non‑surgical and surgical treatment options, and be the kind of doctor I would want to go to myself.”
