SOS Supports YMCA Healthy Aging Day, Promoting Balance, Stability and Independence in the Community

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists (SOS) is proud to sponsor the YMCA of Central New York’s Healthy Aging Day on October 7, an event focused on helping adults stay active, connected and engaged at every stage of life.

SOS Hosting Stability Screening Oct 7 2026 at YMCAs in CNYCommunity education is an important part of SOS’s commitment to serving the health and well-being of the Central New York community. Through events like Healthy Aging Day, SOS is able to share practical information and resources that can help people take an active role in maintaining their mobility, strength and independence.

As part of the event, SOS physical therapists will be at several YMCA locations offering attendees a simple balance and stability test. The screening provides an opportunity for participants to learn more about their balance and discuss ways they can improve stability and mobility.

“Education is an important part of what we do at SOS, and we’re proud to bring our physical therapists into the community to share information that can make a meaningful difference in people’s everyday lives,” said Stacy Griffith, Director of SOS Orthopedic & Sports Therapy. “Balance and stability are important components of staying active and independent. Simple steps to improve strength and stability can help people move with greater confidence and may help reduce their risk of falls.”

Improving balance and stability can support overall strength and mobility, help people remain independent in their daily activities, and promote greater confidence with movement. For older adults in particular, maintaining strength and balance can be an important part of staying active and participating in the activities they enjoy.

The YMCA’s Healthy Aging Day will bring together community organizations and local businesses to connect participants with resources supporting physical, mental and social well-being. The event is free and open to the public, and YMCA membership is not required.

Healthy Aging Day will be held at six YMCA locations throughout Central New York, including the Downtown YMCA, Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA, Manlius YMCA, North Area Family YMCA, Northwest Family YMCA and Southwest YMCA. Event hours vary by location.
